CLUES
Knowing how to listen is a key ingredient to a successful relationship. Sometimes
that's easier said than done. However, if you look at listening as a challenge
to discover new ways of surprising the other person, you may find your power
of perception reaching new heights. For example, I once went on a date with this
girl and we talked about a variety of subjects. She told me that her favorite
movie was The Piano and that she absolutely loved the music in it, but
could never find the soundtrack. After the date, I went online and, sure enough,
the soundtrack was out of print. But there were still many copies to be found
online, so I purchased one, wrapped it up, and gave it to her as a gift. By listening
carefully to everything your partner says, you can pick up vital clues as to
new and thoughtful gestures you can introduce into the relationship to make it
