One of my favorite quotes comes from a gentleman
named John R. Wooden who once said:
"Be
more concerned with your character than your reputation,
because your
character is what you really are, while your reputation
is merely what others think you are."
This piece of wisdom packs a big punch not only for you
and I as individuals, but also for businesses and the way
they conduct business.
A person's character is something that is determined by
his or her daily actions. Being spiteful, angry, greedy,
and/or vengeful builds a negative character while being
kind, giving, sincere, and forgiving helps builds a strong
positive character.
The good news is that because a character is developed
by daily decisions, it is something that can be enhanced
at any time. For example, by consciously deciding to talk
less about people behind their backs and more about positive
things you see in others, you begin to instantly increase
your character. The way you conduct yourself every minute
of the day helps determine the type of person you are and
the type of person that you will become. And nowhere is
this more important than the relationships you develop.
As your character improves, you will notice that your
relationships will improve too. When you live by the golden
rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you
- you discover a new happiness in your life that affects
the way people relate to you. This is important in dating
too, because the person you are dating will often act the
same way to you as the way you act towards them. Keep your
focus on making others happy and it will bring you ultimate
happiness.
Best of success in your relationships,
