The culture is very different in many ways, dating only being one of them. There isn't that much of a difference in bigger cities, smaller towns are much more rooted in their culture. If there is an attraction between two people culture issues tend to work themselves out "naturally" (so to speak). It was probably different for me as a female. I got hit on all the time, but I was engaged (at the time) so I never actually dated a Japanese man. I lived in Japan for a little over 3 years. It's like you get so curious about how they do things, their reactions to the things you are accustomed to,etc. As the video suggests, you have to be modest and don't act like a rock star.
