Patti Novak’s Dating Tips for Women

(Online Dating Newsletter) Patti Novak is a popular matchmaker in Buffalo, New York and the star of the former TV series, Confessions of a Matchmaker. She’s also written a new book titled “Get Over Yourself!: How to Get Real, Get Serious, and Get Ready to Find True Love.

Here are some of Patti’s Dating Tips for Women:

> Laugh and have fun. If you’re excited to be on the date, really show it.  The guy wants to know you’re having a good time.

> Too many women (more so than men) conduct a date like an interview.  Don’t ask him how much money he earns or if he has a 401k. You’re not writing his portfolio.

>If you have four cats, he may not need to know that right away.  No one loves your pets like you do.

> Don’t ask him what happened between him and his ex.  Women have the compulsive tendency to ask this one—we can be the nosiest creatures on the planet.

> In that first encounter, you don’t need to tell him you just lost 25 pounds—it creates a visual you may not want him to have so soon.

> Promote your intelligence, but don’t be afraid to show your softer side.  A man wants an intelligent and independent woman, but he also wants her to be feminine.

I kind of not understanding the second advice. If you go on something like first data why would you get with you other girl … or worse – a few more girls. The man is not arrested and is not going to be on a cross-examination.

Wow… “Don’t ask him how much money he earns or if he has a 401k. You’re not writing his portfolio.” Nice tip. I think, with this economic crisis, ladies will ask this question very often (because the answer will influence the next date).

  3. Rhonda says:

Very good advice. I have found that men with money will let you know it by making subtle comments. When they are financially secure men like to let women know it. Maybe it is just them being macho or maybe it is because they want to relay that the woman would be well taken care of — which is appealing.

    Nice tips for girls.

And for those who will meet their date partner for the first time, don’t expect so much. If he/she didn’t reach your expectation just don’t be bother so much. Continue with your date, maybe he/she can still impress you by talking things about him/her.

    Good-looking is different from cool.

“So, how much do you make?” I think this is the best turn off of all times. Although we want to know if he is holding a steady job, it might be better to find out in a subtle way. I can ask him if he is enjoying his job and look out for hints to gauge if he is financially sound. Worst case scenario could be he needs a loan from me!

  6. Right says:

The writer is spot on in detailing the points women needs to pay attention to.

I myself have found several women on dates sounding like they are conducting an interview! I easily get attracted to females who show they are compassionate as well as rationale in thinking. I also enjoy the company of females who enjoy my company equally well..

  7. Hi those are beaautiful tips…
    please join these too…
    1.Get prepared for dating.
2.Get your act together. Begin a regime of looking your best. Join a gym, read health magazines, get fit and start a diet.
3.Go shopping and treat yourself to new clothes and even a whole new look. Get your image right, one that you can manage and live with, but one that flatters you.
4.Have a good think about what your dating goals are and timescales
5.Take time off from dating occasionally if its not going well or causing dating fatigue.
6.Never ever make yourself too available. People like mystery and enigma and the thrill of the chase when dating.

  8. Will says:

Haha @ the 401K comment, even in this economy, is everyone really that shallow, well the majority of people to actually come out and ask this question? I think that the “What do you do” question comes up a lot. Although women are usually more intrigued rather than offput when they hear I freelance (:
