Metrodate Online Dating Service Goes Free

2

(Online Dating Newsletter) Online dating service Metrodate.com celebrated its 10-year anniversary by announcing that the Website is now 100% free. Previously the service had charged $19.95 for a one-month membership.

“I want more people to have the opportunity to utilize the upgraded and redesigned Metrodate.com, and making it free was clearly the best way to accomplish this.” said Bradley Pliner, founder of MetroDate. “I especially look forward to receiving even more success stories from happy couples who have met through our service.”

Metrodate hopes to negate the effects of no more paid memberships by recruiting local and national advertisers in order to reach its base of users. They hope going free will also grow the user base to make advertising more attractive.

In addition to online dating, Metrodate also publishes announcements on local singles events, hot spots, and a list of restaurants.

I am curious about how these sites are able to sustain their expenses when they take off the subscription model. Of course, free is always great but what I want most are good dating sites with a full set of features to help me get the experience that I want, even if they have to cost me a couple cans of beer a month.

With the economy taking such a drastic turn I would expect more and more dating sites to either reduce their fees or go completely free. The sites can make up the money with affiliate programs and such. I think they will get more users with the free model.
