Online Dating – Best Places for a First Date

Dear Dating Advice,

I’m communicating with someone from an online dating service and we’re about to go on our first date. Where are the best places for a first date?

The majority of online daters have their first date at a coffee house. It’s a very natural and relaxed environment where you can make a quick exit or stay for hours depending on how the date progresses. But you didn’t ask what the most popular place was for a first date, but rather “the best”. Here are some more choices…

1) Miniature Golf.
What’s great about miniature golf is that it is an activity date where you get to know the other person while having fun. In a venue like this, it’s easier for more of your character (and your date’s character) to come out.

2) Hole in the Wall Eatery.
This is one of those small places that few people know about that have absolute knock-out service and food. It may take some research on your part to find it, but when you find this gem, it should impress both your date and you.

3) Local Comedy Club.
Let’s face it,sharing a fun experience on a first date can help build a quick bond. Plan on arriving at the comedy club early with your date to get time to know each other before the “main event”. Being able to laugh and have fun on your date is a recipee for success. But if you think your date may be offended by strong language or sexual innuendos from a comedian, then it’s best to look elsewhere for a first date.

4) Local Fair or Theme Park.
Studies show that going on a date at a theme park helps build a bond as the fun associated with the event is equally associated with who the event is shared with. Thus meeting up at a theme park or local fair could provide great interactivity and entertainment.

When thinking of a place for a first date, be creative, but not over the top. Make sure the venue is a place your date can meet you at (it’s never a good idea to pick up your date or allow yourself to be picked up for a first date). Your first date may have been to a coffee house 12 times already in the last two months, but being a tad creative (and different) will help you stand out from the crowd.

I really like the theme park date idea. I have had dates take me to carnivals and those have ended up being some of my most fun dates. I also went to a car race once on a date and I loved that!

From my point of view other interesting places for a first date are:
    – a picnic park
    – at a football, basketball or another sporting event
    – amusement park

First dates really depend on your personality type and the personality type of the person you want to date. If you are both nature lovers then you can go hiking and have a picnic, then rent a canoe or go tubing down a river.

Anything where you can actually spend time getting to know the person is good. If you opt for a movie go to a drive inn so you can talk and laugh together.
