This actually happened to me - I joined an online dating site after a friend convinced me to do it - I'd gone through a rough patch with a guy and had just moved to a new city where I didn't know anyone. My work hours tend to be unpredictable and crazy, leaving me with very little time/energy to go out and meet anyone + I had my family pressuring me to find someone and settle down, so I figured this online dating thing would be convenient and fun.

I had been on it for a litle over a year and went on some dates, but I only found 1 person that I clicked with through that that and it ended up not working out, leaving me feeling pretty awful. We had talked for pretty much that entire year and as it was long distance, he said he didn't want to take things further. In the meantime, for about a month, my 2 co-workers (both guys) had been teasing me about being on an online dating site, but I was never sure if they knew and I figured if they did, then they were on it too so it wouldn't make a difference. A couple days after thing went south when the one guy I clicked with, that Friday I got an e-mail on the online dating site from one of the co-workers. I knew it was him b/c of the thing he said in it, and when I clicked on the profile, it was deleted. I felt like my privacy had been intruded on, I'd been the object of their joke and I felt like I had been slapped in the face. I deleted my profile and went into depression (due to work pressures, family pressures, and my own internal doubts and lack of self-worth - the co-workers little prank was just icing on the cake.) I am trying to get some help counseling now and keep afloat.

I think that being yourself is the greatest of all because you might forget to 'be mysterious' and when you are finally yourself - you might not like the outcome. So why play the games - this I do not understand and really don't much care to do so.

I believe that you should NOT talk about your past or if you do (because it might be too soon and then you probably would talk about it) - never be negative - because it was part of your past and you shared that time with the person you are being so negative about - yes - it probably is negative now that you are out of that relationship and you see it with different eyes - but you were part of it for awhile - and the only thing you can do is thank GOD for having helped you to open your eyes or give you the experience to learn from to be the greater you that you have become.

I BELIEVE THAT WE GROW FROM EACH OF OUR EXPERIENCES AND THAT WE MUST ALWAYS BE THANKFULL FOR THEM NO MATTER HOW TERRIBLE THEY MAY BE AND THEY MAY BE HORRIBLE - BUT YOU SURVIVED AND NOW YOU ARE HERE - SO BE GRATEFULL TO YOURSELF AND YOUR MAKER FOR THIS EXPERIENCE THAT MAKES YOU - YOU NOW.

I believe it is the mystery that creates more of a perfect illusion, raising the love expectation and false sense of human reality. This is why most relationships don't last very long. The key is to be yourself and balance your modest character with reality and honest. Too much mystery may backfire.

I really thought that there was a stigma around online dating. I was married for 25 years and then divorced and interested in starting to date again. I tried a few things - speed dating, hanging out at the bars, singles groups - but nothing really worked! Then I tried online. After turning down a few, or even ignoring some, I met a really great guy. When people ask me how we met, I'm still a little hesitant to say 'on line', but when I do the response I usually get is, "Oh, my (brother, sister, friend, aunt, etc) met someone online and they are still together!"

My shocking surprise is that i have been dating a guy for the last 9 months, (i was falling in love) i was introduced to him by one of his friends who was on a dating site. The last couple of weeks i have been a bit suss on him, he seems to receive a lot of txt messages, i went back into the dating site we met on 9 months ago and his profile came up with photo, still active and says he is single blah blah. I am at a bit of a loss what to do, he is very attentive to me and very generous although the like word never comes up. Any advice - not sure how to discuss this with him.

The person who doesn't have a photo posted on an online dating site knows they are not attractive, otherwise they would already have a photo. They are the ones setting themselves up, and these type of people usually have low self-esteem or other "issues". This is precisely why I never, ever communicate with these people. It is a common courtesy to have a photo no matter how great your personality is! Just my opinion...thanks

I think it shows lack of character... first, they broke a date with you (for someone else!), second, they didn't seem to care about your feelings, even though they'd been communicating with you for a month. I would be concerned that they would do these type of things in a relationship and it sure isn't what I want, so I would say no to the 2nd offer.

Well if I had planned to meet the person I would have gotten them on the phone first so if they canceled the date via email (not phone) and then recontacted me via email I would add their email address to my kill file and never even read what they wrote from that point forward.

I'm not a sloppy seconds kind of guy. A person who breaks off a date for someone else then tries to come back to you is the type of person that will have insecurity issues in a relationship. My response would be to block them.

I've never heard of this happening! Wow. I've had friends who had dates cancel on them, myself included but never had the date ask again. I would say, say la vee or however you spell it. If I were this girl, my heart would be crushed if I thought we both had something going only to find out he was not as into me as I thought he was. The date was cancelled for a reason, move forward. There are a lot of other guys out there worth getting to know.
